Although the weather wasn't conducive to roofing, Don was able to set some windows this week. This will allow us some much needed light inside the cabin.

The good news is our property has good water on it. The bad news is we currently have a lot of water right now.

Buttermilk Creek

The few lone grommets succumbed to the winds this week, resulting in the final demise of our blue tarp.

This will eventually be a pretty view of our property out the back of the cabin (sans the trash pile, dog houses and the old homestead).

We had a beautiful, sunny Thanksgiving Day at Buttermilk Acres.

Our youngest arrived on Wednesday night with a friend for the holiday and we are expecting more family and friends today.

We have a lot to be thankful for this year!

The Infirmary - (AKA - Blossom's rabbit hutch). Blossom now shares her hutch with two hens that both have broken legs. We are not sure how one of the hens suffered her injury but the other hen was hit by a car. Blossom has been very patient and is proving to be quite the nursemaid.

And, whoever said that cats were not affectionate. Just look at the lovely gift that Jag left right in front of the door the other morning. He was quite proud of himself!

Not much choice for the time being but I can show you some updated photos of the cabin.

Yesterday, we took a walk in the woods to check out some tree burls.

Cool tree burls - these will make some awesome turned bowls or accessories for the cabin.

The kids came on Friday evening for a "surprise" visit for their Dad (whose birthday is coming up in the next few days) to help with construction. Unfortunately, the weather did not cooperate and we spent Saturday huddled up in the camper watching football. Today, however, we got in a half-day of work.....

Sunday update and cookout

Lot's of junk and broken glass on the property. Yesterday, Don and Rodney hauled 2 dumptruck loads of trash to the landfill.

Plenty of trash still to be hauled off.

We had a 5-star meal. Sandy brought home filets from the restaurant. The steaks were ever so tender, and we also had sauteed vegetables, cucumbers, and I brought twice-baked potatoes. Yes, Maggie got plenty of handouts.

Don and Sandy will be out of the rental farmhouse by next weekend; starting their new homesteading adventure on Buttermilk Acres.

Rodney may be a guest blogger here in the future because he knows a lot of history about this Buttermilk area.

"Buttermilk Acres" is our new home.

We have been blessed to have a friend, Joanna Wilcox, who has graciously agreed to help us chronicle our adventure as we relocate and build a "mostly" recycled cabin in the mountains of Tennesee. As many of you know, we made the move to the mountains in September of 2010 and leased a farm in Trade, TN. We loved life in the mountains so much that we have decided to stay and were able to locate some property very close to the leased farm. We will be moving to the new location by the middle of next month.

Since I have lost my camera (I am finally coming to the conclusion that it burned in the barn - as we are saying of everything that is currently misplaced) and will have limited access to the internet over the next few months, Joanna will be authoring a blog for us that will record and document our progress in the months ahead. The link for the blog is listed below. We welcome you to follow and provide any comments or suggestions. Also, offers of free physical labor will not be turned away. :)

This former foundation of a house, will be Don and Sandy's home which sits on 10 acres in Trade, TN.

Rippling, Buttermilk Creek runs through the front yard.

This shed leads up through the back property.

The pop-up camper, next to the foundation, will be home while Don builds their house.
